Ice Safety Tip's!

Well with the cooler weather many of us hardwater nuts including myself have Ice Fishing on the mind. All the new hottest poles, jigs, electronics, augers, & shelters are out now. With that we are drawing near to our first ice trips, And let me tell you I cannot wait to see my first fish up the ice hole. Today I am going to talk a little on something all of us know “ICE SAFETY”! Your safety is the most important thing to any hardwater adventure. With that in mind I going to leave you with a few great tips,
 1. When possible never fish alone, and If you do leave a note or call a friend and let them know where you are going and when you plan to return.
 2. Always bring along a set of life spikes and have them on.
 3. Get a good pair of spikes for your boots last thing you want is to fall and end your season.
 4. Bring along a throw rope at least 50ft long tied to a boat cushion or some sort of float.
 5. Get a ice chisel “spud-bar” and use it often if go’s through 1 to 2 pokes turn around and find better ice.
 6. Cary you sell phone in a plastic zip-lock bag if you do fall in your phone will still work to call for help.
 7. Get a flotation suit or another PFD jacket to keep you floating if you do fall in. With these simple steps in mind you are well on your way to having a great ice season! Best of luck tight lines and check back with us as it gets colder.

Showdown Troller, Aqua Vu Micro

Thanks to all the Chequamegon Bay “Trout Mafia” fans for keeping up and staying in tune with all of our happenings. This month, the focus is on YES “Ice Fishing Again.” As most of you know we are 100% top fueled hard water nuts who’s focus is on branding the many leading brands in the fishing industry.
This months talk is about one of our favorite set ups for run and gun style fishing or as we would say, “search and destroy” leave no fish un-hooked. Whether we are fishing here inside the Chequamegon Bay, out along one of the Apostle Islands, or one of the many inland lakes hunting down trophy fish we choose our “weapons“ wisely. With today’s technology, sonar’s and cameras are as compact as your smart phone. Who doesn’t like that!? Our first things in hand for our fishing missions personal and guide trips is the Showdown Troller. We can’t say enough about the this product and its stealthy uses. In the fishing world and with the Trout Mafia one would think you need a concealed carry permit for this deadly tell all weapon. Accuracy and target separation like a sniper in the palm of your hand. The second is a great optics along for the trips that go’s to Aqua-Vu. With their Micro Camera, it is very fast and easy to use and the size of a smart phone. It is sure nice to see what’s going on underneath the water so you can execute a perfect shot from above. Are you on, or off the spot, or the fish? With this product you will see exactly where the fish are. This has been the fastest camera we have ever used. Saving yourself time and set up this way it is easy to grab your auger and your Aqua Vu Micro in one pocket and your Showdown Troller in the other. Excellent scouting tools for your search and destroy fish missions that are very simple to incorporate both as your full time sonar and or camera for your everyday fishing hard or soft water. If your willing to step up the speed of your angling game don’t be afraid to check out either one of these great brands.

Otter Outdoors/Chequamegon Bay

Otter Outdoors new thermo series ice shelters meets the "Trout Mafia Crew" and walks away with a A+ in concurring the brutal ice train of Lake Superior Chequamegon Bay and Apostle Islands region. When crossing pressure cracks sometimes taller than a car or small pick-up truck or just the ruggedness of miles of jagged pack ice to get to ones fishing area the Otter Series shelters held to the test. Lets face it, your gear gets damaged, sleds chip, crack, and outright break. Plastic ice shelter tubs shatter like dropping dinner plates on the floor. Our Crew has seen this each hard water season and thinking back the to the past years we would spend the day fishing and the nights in the garage- "body shop" plastic patching our shelter tubs.

Otter logo words sink in "Tougher, Stronger, Smarter". The crew and I enjoyed the Otter Lodges last ice season. We spent more time fishing than fixing because we didn't have to cut out early and stay up all night in the shop fixing repairs for the next day. Solution, find a shelter maker that could hold up to our everyday life on the ice and we did just that!

Comfort, strength, and durability, is how we like to put it. The Otter Ice shelter line up is no slouch when it comes to stand up and perform. Warm and toasty on the coldest days old man winter can dish out. Superior strength matched by no other we can firmly say. Spending the money was well worth it. Durability and strength alone has saved me from my year to year shelter purchases. And over all like the logo word "Smarter", It was one of the smartest shelter decisions we have ever made. If you are in the market for buying a new shelter this up coming season do you homework. Don't just look into some icon selling which ever company's shelters, or this is who such and such uses and you should to. Take away the marketing Icon and really look at your shelters.

Ice fishing inside Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay
